Today, my spouse and I participated in the American Lung Association Fight for Air climb in Boston. The proceeds go to lung research.
If you are wondering why I chose to climb stairs, it’s because I have asthma. Although I had asthma as a child, it has gotten progressively worse over the decades, but medications help keep my lung capacity at 80- 85 percent, measured by a (*spirometry test) and that is good enough for me. I would be happy with a lung capacity of 100 percent, but that is not in the cards for me. I am at my healthiest, thanks to top notch doctors and medical research.
The event was held at Fenway Park. It was a beautiful morning. At 10:30am it was time for my group to line up and start the event. My strategy was to go nice and slow. Up and down the stadium stairs I went.
My legs were feeling the muscle fatigue. Soon, I reached the finish line. Mission completed!
It was a great morning.
**Spirometry is the most common type of pulmonary function or breathing test. This test measures how much air you can breathe in and out of your lungs, as well as how easily and fast you can the blow the air out of your lungs.
