Training for New York, Week 9 +10
I had a good Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. It was nice seeing the family.
The marathon is one month away. I’ve got my last long run in today. (22 miles – holy shit) Yes, 22 miles!!!! It was a successful run. I estimate I will finish the New York Marathon around 7 hours and 15 minutes. And now it’s taper time. Ilike to taper an extra week, because I am 56.
The average taper is 3 weeks.
Tapering means reducing your training load before a competition to optimize performance on race day. It’s the rest period before race day to reduce the effects of muscle fatigue, brought on by months of rigorous training.
I have also been doing more swimming.
My pool stayed open until the last day of September, so I was able to enjoy the warm fall days of summer outdoor swimming.
